Bloggers On Trial On HBO

Before I get to some basketball I want to talk about something else. It is at the core of what I do each day. What you do each day hopefully to by reading this blog. Bob Costas had a show on HBO talking about modern sports world. The topic of blogs and bloggers came up. The show had a very heated debate on the subject. Some of it I agree with on both sides. But I will talk about it from my point of view as your Dino Nation Blogger.

I have a education in the media, A well earned Broadcast Journalism Diploma from Mohawk College. I have many friends that have gone on to careers in the established media. I have many others I have meet in my time since. I respect all of them. They all do fine work and have always been supportive of me. Some who I do not even know that well personally at all. I go out of my way to thank anyone and everyone in the media that helps me out. People that read this blog regularly can back me up on that.

I bring my journalistic values to my work that I do. I want to do my best to earn the respect of the main stream media as much as I do my readers. I want to be taken seriously and do my best to act professionally. The topic that sparked the debate on this program was a blog site that had photos of Matt Lienart QB of Arizona Cardinals partying with a bunch of girls. That is garbage in my view to be honest but that is not my blog and my way of doing things. Yet today I feel painted with that same brush as some kind of want to be tabloid writer. That is not fair to myself or any other of the fine bloggers out there. I can only speak for myself when I say that I take what I do very seriously. I make the odd mistake with things from time to time. But I am the writer, editor, marketing and CEO of the Dino Nation Blog. Their are likely a few other things I am. Point being is it a one man operation for the most part. I work very hard is the main point. I put great thought and care in what I write and what I say. I want to be responsible and do a good to great job in giving info and entertainment to Raptor fans. I choose not to swear and write in a way that my mother would be proud to read.(Which she will once in a blue moon) That is my choice to do it that way. I however have no problem with people who choose to use language that is profane in nature. I swear too. I just bite my tongue here when I write.

Other bloggers get much more heated than I do. I’m ok with that people have right to do what they feel is best for them. By reading this blog or any of the other blogs that are out their you must think blogs mean something. Every blogger should be thankful to the people that read what they write. It is an honour that the Internet has given us the means to make happen. There are many good people that blog and many that work in the regular media. We all have the same goal in the end. Share are love and passion about sports with others. I am not interested in bring down people be it players, coaches or anyone connected to the sporting world. I make comments, I have opinions but they are just that. I never have claimed to be an expert in anything. I will never do that. I am one voice that has hopefully a good knowledge of basketball and the media. That is what I am, nothing more, nothing less. But I do not deserve to be disrespected by anyone or have what I say mean any less. If it were true and I put James Borbath TSN.CA would that make me any more knowledgeable on basketball? Nope. But would people change how they view what I say? Yes. In the end there are good blogs and bad blogs. Just like their are good media people and bad media people. Who am I to tell you how to get your information. Who is anyone to say that. Society is the ultimate judge and will make choices for themselves. But when people give bloggers a bad name on a national forum that has influence over that society. No blogger who is not affiliated with the main stream media has the means to fight back for themselves. I just wanted to say that bloggers are not a bad thing and I know doing it for this past 6 months has been a wonderful experience for me. I hope it has been for my readers too. Main stream media and bloggers may be in competition with each other to a degree. But it is like the worst mismatch in sports history.

The Score gets it. There show Drive This brought this to my attention. I am not a fan of the satellite Radio/T. V show. But this was a good topic and one that was obviously of personal interest to me. They have a section on their website The Score.com called the Bullhorn. They give bloggers like me a chance to display what we do and attract people to it. This is the way of the future in my opinion. There is enough people that love sports that we can all share in that. Bloggers, Media and everyone somewhere in the middle.

I wrote this to defend all bloggers and all blog readers. I think blogs are a good thing. I think the main stream media does as well or you wouldn’t see them doing it. If the Media can blog and players so can fans. I read blogs written by all 3 mentioned and enjoy them all. So for all you readers take pride in the fact you read blogs like this and any other. You are smart enough to decide where you go for info and entertainment. You also are smart enough to determine fact from fiction. Don’t let anyone tell you different.

I will just give you a quick hit on the Raptors. 5 things that are not talked about enough about the Toronto Raptors that need to be.

  1. Point Guard Defence matters. When you choose who you support in the Ford vs Calderon Debate remember that.
  2. The Fact Raptors made back to back playoff appearances it counts for something
  3. Bosh and his loyalty to this franchise
  4. The Effort Sam Mitchell has gotten from the majority of players that have played for Toronto in his time here.
  5. The things the Raptors will lose in trading T.J Ford

Ex-Raptor Mo Pete is now on U-Tube too for the newest trick shot in his game. I would think if they had an NBA HORSE competition as NBA ALL-STAR WEEKEND it would be made for a guy who is like Mo. That is not actually a bad idea. I will have to give David Stern a call and suggest that. But if he watched HBO he may not respect what I have to say. Oh well hopefully you folks do. Watch some Mo-Magic below
