Will The Raptors Win It All Before I am gone?

What Does Future Hold For Raptors???

This may be a question more for a Leaf fan than a Raptor fan. When my father was alive he was a diehard N.Y Ranger fan. He did not make it to see his team extract the ghosts of 1942. I have never been a Ranger Fan. Still in that Stanley Cup win I felt joy for my father’s dream. I also had that same feeling when Mike Weir won his green jacket as my father also was a huge golf fan. His dreams and joys I still to this day get joy from for him.

My dream is to one day this this Raptor Franchise that I have watched since it’s birth rise to win an NBA Championship. It is the ultimate excitement for any sports fan to have the team they love win a title. I experienced that as a Cowboy fan in 1992 and as a Ti-Cat fan in 1986. Never have I had that experience as a Buffalo Sabre fan. There was a few close calls like in 1999 but never that perfect moment of ultimate victory. The Raptors closest call came with that run with Vince Carter and the missed shot in game 7. Almost to the conference finals and things looked very bright. We all know that things went the other way. Now things have started back in the positive direction. This season had a lot of promise. But it did not end well and now talk of changes are all the rage. The most of note the trading of one of my personal favorite players T.J Ford. It causes one to be a little depressed about the whole situation ever now and then.

Bryan Colangelo is a bright and talented G.M and excuitive but he has never won a title in his lifetime. It all makes you understand how hard it is to win a championship. I mean takes so many things to go right and can all go wrong with one false move. That is the reality of sports. If you actually stopped to think about being a fan of sports team, you may choose not too. After all the constant ups and downs can really not be healthy for you. It does not make logical sense to be a sports fan in any way, shape or form.

So why do we do it year after year. Coming back for more disappointment and failure. If a sports team was a significant other any good friend would tell you to dump them. It is by nature a destructive relationship. These guys we put on such high lofty pedestals almost always can do nothing but fall off and crash to the ground. Ask Atlanta Falcons fans how they feel about Micheal Vick these days. That is an extreme example but the point it the expectations we place on them can be unrealistic and impossible to live up too.

But here is why we do. For that perfect feeling of winning a championship. The Raptors may not me be close to that right now but hope is a strong thing if you have it. Bryan Colangelo has not given up hope in winning a championship so why should I. After all no one is going to blame me if they don’t. Colangelo is a different matter, he has a off-season that will be very important in the development of this team taking steps toward that Championship moment that we all crave. It is why I write a blog everyday. It is why Bryan Colangelo takes flights to Europe to scout prospects. This is why Sam Mitchell is so emotional. Why Chris Bosh wants fans to cheer. It all is about doing whatever you can to get that feeling of ultimate success.

I may have to write this blog for years and years before I can say we did it. But if that is the case so be it. I have been here since day one and I am not giving up my seat at the front of the bus. I hope to one day write a blog that reflects back on a Raptor Championship. But till that day comes I will keep putting in my 2 cents on how we all get to that dream of a championship. It may not always be right but it will be all with the intention of getting to experience that glory of a championship.

But the question at the start of this was can this happen before I am gone. Well it really has no answer because I can not perdict how long I will remain on this earth any better than I can tell you when the Raptors will win a championship. But if I am betting man looking around the Toronto sports landscape I think I am in the right place. The Leafs are still waiting since 1967. The Toronto Blue Jays after back to back titles in 1992-93 have never even got back to the playoffs. The Raptors have the most hope of the 3 major sports franchises in the city. So despite all the madness I stay focused on my mission. To live to see the day I can say DINO NATION, WE RULE THE WORLD. TORONTO RAPTORS ARE NBA CHAMPIONS. I have faith that day will come. Hopefully you all have that same faith. Dino Nation is not a church or religon but we do have faith. Sometimes blind faith but still faith.
