Spain Continues To Look Ready

Dino Nation Chat Is Born

Some news about the blog to start today. The first thing is I have added a chat room for readers to talk ball in. It is listed on the right side on the main page. In the future I will be making set times to have chats with readers and Raptor fans. Who knows I may even convince a guest to show up on occassion but there are no promises on that. The chat room is really basic in nature but serves the purpose of being able to get together with folks. It holds 100 people max. That was the largest I could make it. So for the events being on time would probably be a wise move.

Jawai Fans Have A Home

The second thing is based on the huge response to Searching For Nathan Jawai. I decided that the Dino Nation Blog should create a fan club to welcome him to Canada and the Raptors. So for those of you with Facebook accounts I invite you to join the group. Here is a Link:

Jose And Spain Ready For U.S.A?

Spain 87 – 62 Argentina
Another win for Jose Calderon and his Spain Crew. They took it to Argentina and lead 46-35 at half time. They would put to rest any idea of a comeback by Argentina outscoring them 25-7 in the 4th quarter. This is the second win for Spain over Argentina in the lead-up to the Olympic Games that start August 10th basketball wise. Spain is now 5-0 in pre-olympic play. They seem the main team that could stand between the United States and a gold medal at this point. For the key stat lines look below:

Spain
J. Calderon MIN: 19:34 FG: 3/5 FT: 9/10 (15 points)
R. Rubio (11 points, 6 steals)
F. Reyes (7 points, 7 rebs)

Argentina
C. Delfino (15 points, 6 rebs)
A. Nocioni (12 points, 5 rebs)

Some More About Jawai

Raptors T.V is showing all the summer league games and I had a chance to look at them again over the weekend. If you want a good idea about Nathan Jawai watch the games vs Lakers and Warriors. This shows you a lot of what Jawai can do. It also shows that he has work to do. But Jermaine O’Neal the newest Raptor has said that he is impressed with Nathan and the two have been working out together in Vegas. Andrea Bargnani and a few others are also there. Jawai as it states in the feature is looking forward to learning from O’Neal. I feel that Jawai has 2 years to learn all he can from Jermaine and when O’Neal’s contract ends he hopefully has learned enough to step in to the Center spot and replace O’Neal should he not re-sign in Toronto. Maybe that is thinking optimistically but when you consider in just 5 years he has got to the NBA maybe it isn’t.

Andris Biedrins 63 Million Dollar Man

If any of you out there are doubting the impact of the recent number of signings in Europe having an effect on the NBA here is your proof. The Golden State Warriors have agreed to a contract of almost 63 million dollars for Andris Biedrins and one of the factors was fear he may bolt to Europe. ESPN is reporting this story and you can read all about in the Link Below:

Emeka Okafor Stock Drops In Charlotte

Emeka Okafor was at one point offered 12 million dollars to remain a Bobcat. He was the teams first ever draft choice and the foundation of the franchise in Charlotte. But the Former UConn Huskie should have signed up at 12 million. Now based on the above sigining  and the resigning of Aussie Andrew Bogut to the Bucks the offer for him has dropped. The Bobcats now are said to be only offering around 10 million to keep Okafor. For the details here is story from the Charlotte Observer:

Team Numero Ocho will do some DAMAGE! Some young bloodz (Ruubbbeeeee!!!), The Gasols, Garbo, Calderon (Numero Ocho Himself), JC NAVARRO, SERGIO ROD, and lotta more weapons. They gotta win a bronze or Silver, or if they can pull it off–> beat US for a Gold.

Nice numbers! Though I am not saying it will happen, oh how I would love Spain to win the gold. I can only imagine how much more confidence and swagger that would bring to Jose’s game. For any one who would question his ability to be one of the team leaders, that would put us in a position to really assess it, stepping into his new starting PG role right after a successful Olympics. I am loving team Espana because when you watch them you can see how well they play as a team, every man ready to accept his own role, team first, not me first. They could teach the US a lesson about that.
