I figured with the first draft for our Fantasy Leagues going on tomorrow I would talk a little fantasy ball today. I already did my first fantasy draft for the year and lucky me I had the number 1 pick. I went against the trend a bit and passed on Chris Paul for Lebron James. The reason for doing that is I am hopeful that Mo Williams and his addition will mean something positive for LeBron. Chris Paul is an excellent pick and coming off an M.V.P like season. The Hornets are considered a favourite in the West. Paul is a big reason why that is. There is also the thought of going with Kobe Bryant as a first pick. But once again Bryant enters the season on the mend from a off-season procedure. So we will have to wait a bit on Kobe to be right and going at 100%. That for me eliminates him from the debate.
Some Guys With Upside:
Yi – While Vince Carter may struggle through a season in which he is right back to wear he was prior to leaving Toronto. The guy who could step up for the Nets could be Chinese Star Yi. He comes off the Olympics playing side by side with Yao and I think he takes the energy from that experience into this NBA season. Look for Yi in the Mid To late rounds and I think you will be happy with the results.
Mo Williams- This one seems like a no brainer. When you are making passes to Lebron James I think you can expect you assists totals to rise. The upgrade in talent from the Bucks to the Cavs is significant. Cavs are hoping for big things from Mo Williams and so will his fantasy owners.
Rodney Stucky- This is the break out year for Rodney Stucky. In fact he may end up taking control in Detroit. Rumours all off-season that Detroit will look to make major changes. One of the names that has been talked about in Chancey Billilups. If that happens the future is now for Rodney Stucky. I said it yesterday I am repeating it today. Rodney Stucky is FANTASY GOLD!!!!
Ron Artest- A new home for Ron Artest in Houston. Will it change the fact that he is loco? Not really. But that being said Artest if handled correctly can be a very effective player in both fantasy and reality. He is the ultimate risk to take in making a fantasy selection. You have no idea what you will get. He could flip out and get suspended you just never know. But that is why Artest will fall below where he should be drafted. He brings those hard to find defensive numbers in steals and blocks from a position that you are happy to get them. So if you are a risk taker then Ron Artest is the guy for you. It usual takes if Ron Artest a little while to flip out.
Ramon Sessions- Good bye Mo, Hello Ramon. There is a reason Mo Williams was allowed to take his skills to the Cavs with little effort to stop him from the Bucks. If Richard Jefferson is motivated in Milwaukee which is something that I think remains to be seen, But if he is that is a good weapon to have. Even if not Ramon Sessions is going to show he is ready for prime time and makes an excellent choice as he is a guy that still flys under the radar for some.
5 Guys to Let Pass You By
Vince Carter- A rebuild and Vince Carter do not mix. Buyer beware does not begin to cover what this season will likely be with Vince in Jersey. A trade out of Jersey would change everything but that is not happening for now. So just in case you need evidence Vince is already nursing the bad hamstring and we are not even two weeks into camp. Sign of things to come. The suggestion would be more numbers for Vince as he is the main option with the Nets but we all know better right?
Sam Dalembert- I am not taking Leo’s side in the battle between him and Sam. But what I did notice and have noticed throughout Sam’s carrer in the NBA is …Injuries and he is healthy for now as far as I know but I just don’t think he will last the entire season. It is feeling that I have. The focus will be on Brand’s health but Dalembert may be the guy we need to keep an eye on as well. I fully expect Sam to now go have a big outing vs the Raptors on Sunday after me saying this. I wonder if Leo Rautins will be in the house to Catch that game. I think Sam may have some things to say to Leo. Call that a hunch.
Raymond Felton- Larry Brown will end up making Raymond Felton take another step backwards. I do not see a bright future for him with the Bobcats. When you have a guy like D.J Augstine drafted in the lottery behind you I think the Bobcats don’t have much faith him as well. Over hyped and not worth your pick.
Kirk Hinrich- Same things that apply to Raymond Felton can all be applied for Kirk Hinrich. The first pick in the draft was selected at his spot if there is a bigger sign you are on your way out I am not sure what it is. So Kirk is not worth your pick and will be wavier wire guy before you know it.
Shawn Marion- SAY WHAT? Keep in mind I am not say let him pass you by in any round after 2. But I am not solid on Marion having the same type of success he did with the Suns. The system allowed Marion to shine despite the fact he always felt like he didn’t get his due with the Suns. The mega numbers we saw with the Suns are a thing of the past. He will still be a great fantasy player just not that first round stud he has been in the past.
So that is all see you Tomorrow a draft, a Raptor Game and an Interview for the blog are all in the cards.
